This DVD portrays Gustavo Dudamel's thrilling debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2008 recorded live in the heat of the moment at the Grosses Festspielhaus. This compelling concert features Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated in psychedelic colors by Ravel, eliciting rousing playing from Dudamel's young instrumentalists. For the Beethoven's Triple Concerto, Dudamel assembles the classical dream team including pianist Martha Argerich, violinist Renaud Capuçon and cellist Gautier Capuçon who bring emotionality to one of Beethoven's most emotionally naked compositions. DVD EXTRAS: Die Schule des Hörens--master classes in listening led by Dudamel, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and the SBYOV as given at the 2008 Salzburg Festival.

A triumph of remembrance, wrote Die Welt following this stirring concert given by the Berliner Philharmoniker under Seiji Ozawa and with Anne-Sophie Mutter as
soloist. It left its audience hovering between hushed reverence and deafening exultation. The Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein was the dazzling venue for the live recording of this concert celebrating the 100th birthday of Herbert von Karajan.
And there Karajan s Berliner never sounded better, evoking a time which selfconfidently sought the private and subjective in music, and believed it could find them in the mirror of the works (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung). It is a concert that commemorates Herbert von Karajan for the ages in a supremely moving manner.

In February 2001 the Berlin Philharmonic and Claudio Abbado were guests at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with all of Beethoven's symphonies. Their success was overwhelming: ther were standing ovations after each performance and the critics spoke of seminal moments in the history of music. The video recordings of this event are now available in an exclusive box set, including a special multi-angle feature: the DVDs offer sequences from the 'conductor camera' and show the maestro from his musicians' perspective.
