Hugely influential, the work of Fritz Reiner has left an indelible impression on the history of classical music. Having worked with some of the most important orchestras in Europe and America, he also produced some formidable proteges, such as Leonard Bernstein. This period drama takes Beethoven fans back to the momentous day on which audiences first heard Eroica -- or as it is also known -- Symphony No.3. Set in 1804 Vienna, the film follows Beethoven (played convincingly by Ian Hart) as he prepares to unveil his grand masterpiece to a select group of listeners at the Lobkowitz Palace in June of that year. BEETHOVEN-EROICA features a full performance of the symphony conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
