This special program celebrates the 10th anniversary of Australia's largest drumming festival by compiling footage from the previous nine years with fresh performances by over 20 leading drummers. Just a few of the featured artists include John Tempesta, David Jones, and Graham Morgan, with Virgil Donat and Luis Conte not only performing, but also giving two 30-minute workshops. Nearly four hours long, ULTIMATE DRUMMER'S WEEKEND also contains interviews with several of the world's top percussionists.

After influencing a wide range of musicians who followed, including David Bowie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even the punk movement, the Krautrock sound experienced a revival in the early 2000s. Born in Germany in the 1960s and 1970s at the same time as the hippie countercultural movement in the States, Krautrock--originally a derogatory name coined by the British press--combined traditional rock instrumentation with a similar, though more radical, taste for experimentation. Like their American counterparts, Krautrock bands were influenced by psychedelia, and embraced an ambient sound, but fused this aesthetic with the electronic avant-garde. All the bands collected here were part of the original movement, and all have continued to contribute to the music scene ever since. Guru Guru, Karthago, Peter Panka`s Jane, Epitaph, Amon Duul II, and Birth Control--a representative selection of the first wave of this influential, though nebulous, genre--all deliver live performances of their seminal music. The Krautrock influence has never been far from rock & roll innovation, and the bands found here have kept this experimental spirit alive and well.

Although the famous opera has been interpreted and performed in many different ways, few have taken to the production of MADAMA BUTTERFLY with the same gusto and guile as soprano Anna Moffo. Fully inhabiting the role of Cio-Cio San, Moffo pulls off a stunning performance in this production, which was filmed on January 24th, 1956. Incredibly Moffo had barely performed in a major opera before this performance, but her name soon resonated throughout the opera world as news of her talents spread. A dazzling career followed, but it was in this production that her roots were firmly planted.
