In the Oregon Territory, mountain man Adam Pontipee (Howard Keel, acting and singing with gusto) comes to town to sell his crops and woo a woman to be his wife, succeeding with spirited Milly (Jane Powell), who is tired of feeding and waiting on so many men at the local inn. Her dreams of keeping house for just one man are shattered when she discovers that Adam shares his pigsty cabin with six brawling brothers. Milly's good cooking and stubborn nature whip the young men into shape and inspire them to seek women of their own. But after a disastrous barn raising during which the brothers snare the attention of the town girls only to be taunted into fighting with the town men, Adam suggests his brothers forget gentle methods of love and follow the actions of the Roman with the Sabine (Sobbin') women. The kidnapping of their six sweethearts spurs Milly to throw the men out of the house, but enforced proximity caused by winter and the brothers' good intentions just might help love bloom again.DVD Features:Region 1 EncodingKeep CaseMaking of documentary8-page booklet bursting with behind-the-scenes excitementTheatrical trailer

Carnegie Hall (DVD) Carnegie Hall (DVD) » Carnegie Hall (DVD)

Acclaimed B-movie director Edgar G. Ulmer filmed this selection of memorable musical performances, loosely connected by the story of Nora, an Irish scrubwoman (Marsha Hunt) whose passion for classical music causes her to clash with her jazz-loving pianist son (William Prince). The rift caused by their musical differences is eventually healed amid the music of the hall, where Nora works. Arthur Rubinstein, Bruno Walter, and Leopold Stowkowski conduct such accomplished classical performers as vocalists Lily Pons, Ezio Pinza, and Rise Stevens; cellist Gregor Piatgorsky, and violin virtuoso Jascha Heifetz. Vaughn Monroe's orchestra and jazz trumpeter Harry James also show up, and Nora realizes maybe jazz is okay after all. This was clearly a labor of love for Ulmer, and his fluid direction captures the grandeur and excitement of the concert experience. The main story may be a bit trite, but as a document of these legendary musicians in action, this is a gem that deserves an honored spot in any classical music or film lover's collection.DVD Features:Region 0 EncodingKeep CaseRare Stills

St. Louis Cardinals Vintage World Series Films 1960`s (DVD) » St. Louis Cardinals Vintage World Series Films 1960`s (DVD)

Major League baseball began creating official World Series films in 1943 to support and entertain the U.S. troops serving overseas. These films, which have since grown into dynamic documentaries, include some of the most exciting baseball moments of all time. This volume covers the St. Louis Cardinals in the series of 1964, 1967 and 1968. The famous `64 World Series had the powerhouse Cardinals (behind pitching great Bob Gibson) taking on the fading remnants of a great Yankees team, in games marked by tense pitching duels and heroic clutch hitting. In `67, the Cards faced the Red Sox, with predictable results, and in `68 they took on the Detroit Tigers behind the still-dominant Gibson and slugger Orlando Cepeda.
