Tony Rebel once again brings to fans of reggae and dancehall the premier roots festival to celebrate its eleventh anniversary. An unsurpassed entertainer with legendary status and firm Rastafarian beliefs, Rebel was at the helm of the cultural revolution seen in the 1990s, and has consistently been at the vanguard of virtually all developments in reggae, including the union of roots and dancehall which he helped to effect. Rebel Salute was developed as a conscious alternative to the violence and slackness that plagued the scene, and was responsible in large part for returning dancehall to its positive roots. This remains true today, as drugs, alcohol, and meat are banned at the festival, and the pride of the culture is proclaimed and sustained through the progressive messages of the artistes. The festival of 2004, captured on this release, featured a stellar lineup, including Junior Byles, The Jays, Culture, Mighty Diamonds, John Holt, and Dwight Pinkey.

Ashanti was first discovered by her mother as she sang while doing chores at the tender age of 12. Recognizing her talent, Ashanti's mother took the blossoming star to Jive Records, with whom she signed a contract at the age of 14. When the hip hop princess--who writes all her own songs--subsequently signed to Murder Inc., the first three songs she released on the label made it to the top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100. She has worked with many hip hop heavyweights, writing lyrics and singing backup for the likes of Ja Rule, J. Lo, and Fat Joe. The Theatre Royal in London's Drury Lane has played host to some spectacular performances over the years. So when the producers of DANCING ON DANGEROUS GROUND decided to take their production to the hallowed stage, they had some tough acts to follow. Fortunately they pulled it off with consummate ease, aided by a stellar cast which included Jean Butler and Colin Dunne from RIVERDANCE. Director Lindsay Dolan debuted the show on December 6th, 1999, to a rapturous reception. IN THEATERS NOVEMBER 23, 2005Director Christopher Columbus (MRS. DOUBTFIRE, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER S STONE) adapts the hit Broadway musical of the same name to the big screen in RENT. A modern spin on the opera LA BOHEME, RENT tells the story of eight friends dealing with life and love in Manhattan`s Alphabet City in 1989. Wannabe filmmaker Mark (Anthony Rapp) and singer/songwriter Roger (Adam Pascal) are facing eviction at the hands of their former roommate and current landlord, Benny (Taye Diggs). Benny has married rich, moved out of the neighborhood, and wants to build a state-of-the-art studio where the local tent city stands. Their downstairs neighbor, vivacious Mimi (Rosario Dawson), who strips at a local club to feed her heroin habit, takes a shine to Roger, a self-imposed recluse and former junkie whose last girlfriend died of AIDS. Their friend, Collins (Jesse L. Martin), returns to town and quickly falls for Angel (Wilson Jermaine Heredia), a glamorous, gracious, HIV positive transvestite. Finally, there is Maureen (Idina Menzel), a spitfire and performance artist who is planning a protest against Benny s plans and has dumped Mark for cerebral Joanne (Tracie Thoms), a lawyer.Over the course of a year, the friends face poverty, drug addiction, break-ups, reconciliations, eviction, and AIDS. Despite these challenges, they find support, hope, and acceptance in each other, all the while embracing the bohemian lifestyle that was so much a part of the Lower East Side. Newcomers Dawson and Thoms mix seamlessly with the original cast members, and Columbus introduces some interesting staging locations. With a concept, music, and lyrics by the late Jonathan Larson, RENT is an exuberant rock-&-roll musical with the underlying message that love can prevail despite all odds and that, ultimately, there really is no day but today.
