Shot in 2003 at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, this concert was designed to pay tribute to the work of jazz violinist Giuseppe Venuti. Jeremy Cohen`s ViolinJazz Quartet take to the stage, working their way through an inimitable selection of Venuti`s works. Shot in the year in which Venuti would have celebrated his 100th birthday, this is a very fitting tribute to the great man.

A talented musician fraught with a troubled career, Steve Marriott is best remembered as the frontman for the mod band the Small Faces, which also included Ronnie Lane, and future Who drummer Kenny Jones. At odds with his fame and dogged by the constant near-miss of success, Marriott nonetheless played with a passion and innovation that has inspired generations. His early demise when his house caught fire was a tragedy to the music world, and his popularity has, ironically, only grown since his death. This footage documents the concert held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Marriott's death. Performed by talented musicians Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, RAGA BHOOPALI is a peaceful, engaging work of classical Indian music. Playing the santoor--a traditional stringed instrument--as well as the flute and the tabla, the artists present this formally rigorous work in an improvised, spontaneous, and thoroughly enjoyable way. This release is a follow-up to 1967s blockbuster CALL OF THE VALLEY, which was the first thematic recording in Indian classical music, telling the story of a young couple living in the Kashmir Valley. The story of the sequel reflects the changing times, having shed some of the innocence and harmony originally depicted, while the work still aims to inspire peace and love through the medium of music. In this sweet, romantic comedy of errors set in Paris, Maurice Chevalier plays a poor tailor, Maurice Courtelin, who moves in with nobility when he tries to collect a debt from Vicomte Gilbert de Vareze (Charles Ruggles) who cannot pay. To buy time, de Vareze invites Courtelin to stay with his family, and introduces him as a baron. Courtelin's overwhelming charm soon wins over the entire household, including the alluring Princess Jeanette (Jeanette MacDonald). Though at first skeptical of his pedigree, Princess Jeanette warms to Courtelin - does romance follow? In addition to the superb lead performances, Charles Ruggles and Myna Loy supply steady laughs with their loony caricatures, and Rouben Mamoulian's direction takes full advantage of the talented cast and music provided by Rodgers and Hart.
