Legendary goth rockers Spear of Destiny were controversial mainstays of underground rock from 1983-1997. Formed by Theater of Hate frontman Kirk Brandon, they took their name from the spear used to pierce Christ on the cross and which is said in some circles to have passed through the hands of Attila the Hun, Napoleon, and Hitler. Critical backlash was prevalent for this reason, but they still made a name for themselves and developed a following with their seminal 1983 album THE GRAPES OF WRATH, released on CBS Records. The album was characterized by the social awareness of Brandon's lyrics and the dark, powerful mayhem of the music. LIVE AT THE HACIENDA features footage from a performance at the legendary Hacienda Club in Manchester in 1983; the band plays their UK chart hit The Wheel as well as their first single, The Flying Scotsman.
