Based on the Broadway show from the Damon Runyon short story and filled to the brim with Frank Loesser tunes such as Luck Be a Lady and Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat, this outrageously comic film featuring Marlon Brando's bold musical debut is a colorful tale about gamblers, a feisty Salvation Army lass, and a dance-hall girl with a pining heart. Love proves to be contagious as spicy dancer Miss Adelaide, in a role re-created for the screen from Broadway by showstopper Vivian Blaine, is determined to get her fiance, Nathan, to the altar one way or another. Stubby Kaye and B.S. Pully also reprise their stage roles in this glorious Cinemascope film that earned four Academy Award nominations. The reputation of the Kirov Ballet resonates throughout the world of the performing arts. Here, they work their magic throughout three different programs. Known to be as smooth as silk, as polished as fine silver, and as cool as ice, the so-called
Rat Pack
of the mid-20th century were the hippest cats in town. Made up of Frank Sinatra and his talented cronies, including Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., this group of entertainers performed together frequently in the baroque casinos of Las Vegas, most notably the Sands Hotel. RAT PACK--LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, is not a performance by the original members, but rather a dead-on tribute show enacted in the Sands` famed Copa Room. Three hilarious performers take on the legendary personas of Sinatra, Martin, and Davis in what turns out to be a show that offers not only some fantastic song and dance, but also a full-on recreation of a mood of decadence and indulgence that only Vegas can offer.
