Having made an auspicious debut in 1923 with a one-act opera entitled AMELIA GOES TO THE BALL, Gian Carlo Menotti progressed to firmly establish himself on the world stage. Having worked in radio, as well as producing solo works for the piano, Menotti returned to his favored form with the 1945 premier of THE MEDIUM.
