This edition of the GREAT COMPOSERS series explores the life and achievements of one the world's greatest composers, Johann Sebastian Bach. Providing a context for Bach's musical accomplishments, this documentary visits the places where the musician grew up and worked, including the sites of Arnstadt, Lepizig, K/then, and Muhlausen. Also explored are the methods Bach used for composing, as well as the socio-political environment of the time in which he lived.

This concert which took place in 1990, was a step along the long road of reconciliation between the two countries of Germany and Israel. The Berlin Philharmonic toured Israel and at the end featured a musical meeting with the Israel Philharmonic.
