ORFEO& EURIDICE was a remarkable, influential, and revolutionary opera in multiple ways, demonstrative of many of the things that made Christoph Willibald Gluck a great composer. Eschewing the Baroque propensity toward over-ornamentation and stiff formality at the expense of dramatic flow. He wanted greatly to allow the poetry to shine through in the music, not be drowned out by superfluous pomp. Also manifesting a French influence, which Gluck wanted to meld with Italian opera, the work breaks down the traditional barriers between recitative and aria. Nonetheless, ORFEO& EURIDICE unfolds on a grand scale, employing choruses of shades and furies that contrast with Orfeo's earthly search for Euridice. Ray Anthony was perhaps best known for playing with Glenn Miller and recording a cover of the DRAGNET theme tune. But he built up a considerable reputation fronting his own band, who back Anthony on this hour-long concert. Shot in black and white, the show features joyous renditions of songs such as

while a medley of tunes from the Glenn Miller-era round out the show.
