Rossini`s L`EQUIVOCO STRAVAGANTE is beautifully rendered here, with Olga Voznessenskaia, Carlo Moroni, and Luciano Miotto in lead roles. The story follows the fortunes of Ernestina, who does anything she can to prevent her marriage to Buralicchio, who she considers to be a less than adequate intellectual match. But spreading a rumor that she has deserted the army backfires when Buralicchio has Ernestina thrown in jail, although her new suitor, Ermanno, helps her to escape. This humorous opera is played out to an evocative musical backing, with much credit due to conductor Carmine Carrisi.

Michael Ritchie brings the world's longest-running musical to the big screen with this good-natured American love fable.
