Composed in the last year of Pergolesi's life, before his tragic early death of tuberculosis, this beautiful, moving sacred work is also one of the most popular and often performed. Taking as its subject matter the conversation between Mary and Jesus on the cross, it's simplicity is exquisitely captured here by the Cambridge Ensemble, with soprano Angharad Gruffydd Jones, and counter-tenor Lawrence Zazzo. As the accordionist for successful Cajun group Balfa Toujours, Dirk Powell knows a thing or two about creating that undeniably Cajun sound. In part one of this instructional series, he lays down the basics for the novice player. Through clear demonstrations and easy-to-follow instructions, viewers will learn how to hold the accordion, use the bellows, and find the right notes. Powell also introduces the concept of the double octave, a staple of the waltzes and two-steps that make up the Cajun style.
