The history of Mozart`s two-act opera DIE ZAUBERFLOTE (THE MAGIC FLUTE) stretches back to its debut in Vienna in 1791. Sadly, Mozart died just two months later, but the opera has remained a favorite across the globe for more than two centuries. Here it is performed by a superlative cast that includes the Grammy Award-winning Kurt Moll, Slovakian coloratura Edita Gruberova, and Austrian soprano Lucia Popp.

An archetypal story of star crossed love set in a lush Indian locale, this ballet tells the story of Nikiya, a temple dancer, or bayadere, who is in love with the warrior Solor. Sadly, Solor is betrothed to the beautiful princess Gamzetti, and soon forgets his love for the bayadere; Gamzetti has Nikiya killed, but she returns to haunt those who have wronged her, and the lovers are ultimately united forever in the afterlife.
