Though he is best known for penning the standard Mr. Bojangles, Jerry Jeff Walker's career spans nearly four decades. Starting as a post-Dylan folkie in the late 1960s cafes of Greenwich Village, he became an important figure in the back-to-basics country movement when he moved to Austin in the early 1970's and fell in with like-minded artists such as Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, and Townes Van Zandt. Hugely influential, the work of Fritz Reiner has left an indelible impression on the history of classical music. Having worked with some of the most important orchestras in Europe and America, he also produced some formidable proteges, such as Leonard Bernstein. But it's his work with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra which is perhaps most revered, and it is that which is featured on this release.
