Hans Knappertsbusch was one of the most distinguished of German conductors, and considered one of the last of a certain style and generation of learned music men. His directness and unconventional manner made him a one of a kind maverick and gained him both admirers and detractors. The included excerpts from Wagner`s TRISTAN will especially show Knappertsbusch`s unique style and contributions to classical music.
