One of Verdi`s lesser-known works, IL CORSARO is a tragic opera composed in the autumn of 1948, after the composer had established a reputation in Italy. Despite the infrequence of its performance, the story is an exciting tale of war, betrayal, and doomed love, manifested in many moving passages and an engaging rhythm. The production featured here stars much-lauded baritone Renato Bruson, and conductor Renato Palumbo; the work is augmented considerably by the gorgeous set design by Lamberto Puggelli.
