The New York Philharmonic, under the direction of Leonard Bernstein, performs Schumann`s inaugural effort and the Fifth from Shostakovich, which brought the composer back into favor with the Soviet regime in 1936. Recorded live in Tokyo at the Bunka Kaikan.
