Giacomo Puccini – Madama Butterfly (DVD)

Placido Domingo conducted this production of MADAMA BUTTERFLY, performed in Torre del Lago, where Puccini made his home in a local villa he owned. The story unfolds as the American Lt. Pinkerton marries a geisha in early 20th Century Nagasaki. In love for the moment, Pinkerton declares his intention to someday find a real American wife, and later proceeds to do just that. The loyal and honorable Madama Butterfly chooses suicide over a life of disgrace. The illustrious cast of this presentation features the celebrated soprano Daniela Dessi, as well as Fabio Armiliato, Juan Pons, and Rossana Rinaldi.
